North Korea's foreign minister says President Trump's tweets about
the Korean nation amount to a declaration of war and that under
international law, his country can legally shoot down U.S. military
planes — even if they're not in North Korea's airspace. "For the past
couple of days, we had earnestly hoped that the war of words between
North Korea and the U.S. would not lead to action," Ri Yong Ho said in
remarks translated for NPR by journalist Jihye Lee. "However, Trump had
ultimately declared war again last weekend, by saying regarding our
leadership, that he will make it unable to last ...

After the prior week of ESPN madness, I was eager to get back to
the goofy. You know: My usual, meaningless sports insanity, with a
couple of spelling errors and grammatical mistakes sprinkled in for fun.
Maybe, for a column, I’d take my kids to the annual meatball-eating
contest at the Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy. Meatball eating is
basically a sport, and Tony Danza was set to host. Maybe I’d write about
the men’s road cycling world championships in Norway, which the
remarkable Slovak Peter Sagan won for the third year in a row. You know
how I love me some bike racing and Peter Sa...

The business of street style has long been a murky one. Who’s
being paid, for wearing what, by whom, remain shady little secrets for
many in the industry. “If Zanita Whittington said yes to every deal that
came her way, she could earn as much as $100,000 for a single New York
Fashion Week,” read a profile about a well-known style blogger and
influencer on the US style website Refinery29 this month. The piece went
on to describe how some influencers now claim tens of thousands of
dollars for a single sponsored post. Now, the street-style industry that

Shares of US car retailers have made a comeback in September, but
analysts warn that longer term concerns over the threat of ecommerce and
weak demand in the sector remain. O’Reilly Automotive rose on Monday,
up 2.8 per cent to $215.51. It outperformed the broad S&P 500 index
which weakened 0.4 per cent to 2,492. The Dow Jones Industrial Average
also traded down 0.4 per cent at 22,260 going into the New York
afternoon and the Nasdaq Composite moved 1.2 per cent lower to 6,347.
Genuine Parts, which distributes replacement car parts, saw the biggest
gains of any stock in the S&P 500 going int...

Opening this year’s Turner Prize to artists of any age, not just
those under 50, has had immediate results: an impressive, wide-ranging
shortlist and, in a gracious, thoughtful presentation at Hull’s Ferens
Art Gallery, the most serious, accessible Turner exhibition this
century. With each artist dedicated to a specific medium — painting,
sculptural installation, film, archival work — the show embraces today’s
broad spectrum of art-making. It also catches wonderfully the pulse of
the moment: all four contenders — none has UK-born parents — share
essential concerns with images of otherness, ...

That’s not a bad return on investment. Blackstone has agreed to
sell vehicle parts distributor Alliance Automotive Group for $2bn, more
than three times the price the private equity group paid for the company
just three years ago. US group Genuine Parts Company has agreed to
acquire UK- and France-focused Alliance for $2bn including the company’s
outstanding debt. AAG is Europe’s second-largest parts distributor,
with annual revenues expected to come in at $1.7bn this year. Funds
managed by Blackstone took control of the company for around €440m in
August 2014 (which was around $589m at con...

Germany’s election result has weakened the euro in the short term
and imbued currency markets with a lingering sense of European political
risk, following a surprisingly strong showing by the anti-immigration
Alternative for Germany party that left Angela Merkel with a shakier
hold on power. Ms Merkel, who remains on track for a fourth term as
German chancellor after Sunday’s election, will probably enter into a
more complex coalition after her Christian Democrat-led alliance and the
Social Democrats recorded their worst result in years. The euro was
down as much as 0.4 per cent against the...

MILANO, 25 settembre (Reuters) - Piazza Affari chiude in terreno

rispetto a venerdì sera. Debole il mercato obbligazionario con lo spread
Btp/Bund in salita a quota 170 punti (venerdì quotava a 166 punti).
cautela. Secondo Maria Paola Toschi, mar...

The executive behind Europe’s largest buyout deal in nearly five
years has hit out at the high prices the industry is paying in their
pursuit of assets. After Hellman & Friedman agreed to pay $5.3bn for
Nets A/S, Scandinavia’s largest payments processor on Monday, Patrick
Healy said: “Any time you buy something today it is at the highest
price. We always focus on [so-called] winner’s curse. “If you win, you
obviously paid the highest price so how are you going to be able to
deliver against that?” H&F’s offer represents a roughly 30 per cent
premium to the unaffected share price of Nets, or ...
